A Friday night menu club outing, how festive.
Cremant (cray-MAHN) was our destination, our first in Madrona. While it was lovely and warm, the evening had an undertone of melancholy… for Jane announced her planned move back East. We are all sad, though we are excited for her. I personally have wrestled the idea many times, and I have a great deal of respect for the courage it takes to make that call. Go Jane, Go! But we’ll miss you for sure. You, and Destiny. Sniff.
On that note, Jane totally won the style award Friday evening. That black and white top was kick-ass. Loved it!
As for the restaurant, our reservation was for 8:30 and we hadn’t ordered any food as of 9:15, so we had a bit of a rocky beginning. Then again, I was enjoying champagne, so it was not-so-bad for me. Did anyone else note the eager-to-chat gentleman at the next table? He and his party seemed to linger for quite a while. Anyway, one new-but-anxious-to-please waiter later, we did have some tasty French treats.
- Lauri honored Good Friday with the beet salad, followed by the scallops…
- Jane and I were much less-impressively-Catholic by ordering the pork/apricot/pistachio pate, followed by steak frites (Jane), and lamb shank (me). Leftovers for both of us! (I enjoyed my lamb again on Easter Sunday for dinner, with a nice polenta. Splendid!)
- Sasha got the special, a delicious-sounding ravioli filled with a cod/herb/potato blend and a tomato sauce. Yum.
Jane and I had an excellent CĂ´tes du Rhone with our meaty meals… and we all skipped dessert.
As for other news, Lauri’s back — or ribs, who knows? — continues to heal slowly and she and Nok had fun at the school auction, successfully managing not to win any items. Sasha and James head north this week for a few days to Vancouver, Tofino and Victoria on spring break. Beth is done with the first draft and just back from a trip to Bend, OR where she ran around in socks and sweats trying many beers and enjoying general silliness with cousins Richie and Peggy… it’s also spring break for her. Woo hoo!
I think the plan for next month is TBD — did we ask Jane to select a date and a place?
